We may have mentioned that we love the South Pennines. That we are passionate about this landscape and its industrial past. We have also been known to mention the wealth of creativity we have here. We wanted to showcase this creativity and celebrate our industrial heritage and so in the summer of 2013, we commissioned textile artists Jude Wadley, Dionne Swift, Val Hughes, Joanna Whitehead, Janet Hagger and Karen Alderson to do just that.
Working from a template designed by Jude Wadley, the artists worked with groups in Hebden Bridge, Haworth, Holmfirth, Marsden, Rochdale and Saddleworth. They stitched, embroidered, felted, wax-batiked, silk-painted, knitted, crocheted and appliquéd. The South Pennines: A Textile Tale is the result. We hope you like it.
We’ve arranged a tour of South Pennines towns for this stunning piece of artwork. It is currently on display at Touchstones in Rochdale.
